WHAT IS A BLURB EDIT?

A blurb edit is a detailed look at and potential reworking of the blurb that goes on the back cover of your story. Besides your book’s cover art, your blurb is the most important marketing tool to get readers interested in choosing your story out of the millions of other books out there.

SOME QUESTIONS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN CRAFTING A BOOK BLURB:

• What do I want to say with this story?

• Who are/will be my readers? Do they have expectations for my genre?

• Does my opening have an intriguing hook?

• Does my information flow smoothly and coherently throughout the blurb?

• Am I focusing on the correct story elements?

• Do I have any big plot spoilers in the blurb?

• Have I captured the correct tone for the feel of the story the blurb describes?

• Have I kept the blurb within an appropriate word count? (Approximately 150-300 words)

HOW I WILL WORK WITH YOU:

Here is how the process of a blurb edit typically goes:

1. Reach out to me via the form on my “contact me” page, or DM me through @readthestarsediting on Instagram.

2. I will reach out to you via the method you prefer (email or DM) and we can discuss your story.

3. If you decide to utilize my services, you can email me a Microsoft Word document of your blurb, and I’ll have it returned to you fully edited either the same day or next. These edits will include in-line tracked changes and margin commentary explaining my reasons for altering various parts of the blurb.

4. I will invoice the flat $30 rate upon completion.

5. You are welcome to speak with me more on my editing choices and ask any questions about my suggestions or commentary! I love working with authors and want you to be fully satisfied with my contributions to your story.
